Anyone else able to pick much better standing up vs sitting down/vice versa? When I stand with guitar I’m able to do UPX much better than when I sit. I credit this to playing in lots of bands over the years and doing a lot of my playing standing up. However, when I sit I feel like I’m doing the “shaking hands” movement and my picking goes to hell. I also pick much faster with the DPX, standing or sitting. I just want to get my UPX better because I like the tone of it better for some things, and plus palm muting is better for me that way. I have a Magnet and plan on posting some playing technique videos at some point.
My guess is that you’re changing some angles when you sit.
Do you use a strap when you sit? If not, put one on and see what happens when you do. Is there more slack when you’re seated?
Yeah, that definitely makes sense. I’ll try the strap thing to see. I think my guitar generally hangs a bit lower compared to when I sit…just have to see how it’s changing my angles.
If you don’t already, try sitting with the body between your legs, classical style. Start in your standing position and sit down while trying to keep your setup the same. Especially take notice of where your picking hand is relative to your stomach or waist or wherever it normally is while standing. To maintain the same position I have to try and open my right leg more, sort of like sitting Indian style, but ymmv.
Yeah, that does seem to work much better, though I find my back sometimes aches a little bit at that angle (getting older over here haha). I don’t know if I’m turning a bit too much or what. My wrist definitely feels looser and faster when the guitar is in that position, though. maybe not quite as fast as when I stand, but definitely getting a lot closer. Should probably just stick to playing that way when I sit.
