Jimmy Rosenberg - the Gypsy jazz prodigy

Just discovered Jimmy Rosenberg today and wanted to share with those who don’t know him and invite those who do, to post their favorite clips/songs of his.

Jimmy is 12 years old in this clip playing with his group “the Gypsy Kids” - skip to 9:18 for the performance of “minor swing”

I’m gonna steal that lick at 10:36 hot damn! Imagine to b e able to play like that at age 12 :astonished: I think he has some really amazing ideas for his improvisations. What a talent.

His collaborator, Jon Larsen, made a documentary about playing with Jimmy and his fate. Jimmy is still alive today, but I am unsure if he is playing to the public. A sad story but perhaps there is still hope for him.

Hi guys and @Troy ,
Jimmy plays that lick at almost Yngwie speed with ALL downstrokes except one upstroke and no pull-offs, the only upstroke in A minor would be the E at the 12th fret on the high E string. He (almost) never plays an upstroke when changing strings, both ascendind and descending, also two note per string from low strings to high strings are played all downstrokes (or double down, however you call it). In this way he’s got a huge tone and extremely agressive. Anyway I’ve never seen anybody that could play at those speed with this tecnique (the only exeption maybe his unlce Stochelo Rosenberg) ANyway this is a dutch style of Gypsy jazz.
Nice day to everybody!
