I love how much control this guy has - he posts quite a few videos from this angle, but the white pick he uses here really helps demonstrate just how precise he is. Shallow, consistent depth throughout.
I am fascinated by his picking. The way he holds the pick looks so delicate and it looks like he is using as little effort as possible. I find the same with his fretting hand - it looks like he is just barely touching the strings.
This is a really cool video to check out, regarding that - training yourself to use the least possible fretting pressure. He is definitely Mr. Efficiency.
His action is probably pretty low too, which I’m sure helps a lot.
Kiko is a monster. And he’s rare if you ask me. He’s a monster player who still writes cool stuff. I was learning Vital Signs a while back. So cool.
I wish I had the tab for this arpeggio lick though. Kiko has a peculiar habit of holding his pick off center. Strange. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else hold a pick like that.
David Grier uses a similar grip. I haven’t seen anyone else using it in a rock guitar context though. I’m sure there are some others out there that do it too.
SRV famously picking with the shoulder of his pick rather than the point, because he felt it gave him more attack.
