I’ve seen a lot of comment recently about the difficulty of learning small chunks of notes.
I’ve found, by accident, that learning a phrase with hybrid picking and legato, where I use only a downstroke with the plectrum and second or third finger to play a string once and any other notes on that string and then played with legato, gets me to play a pattern of notes smoothly, and then I can concentrate on alternate picking the line with the knowledge that my fretting hand has the knowledge of the piece, so any problems must be my picking hand.
And when I’m alternate picking the section, I can increase the speed from the hybrid pattern, but I’ve also got the hybrid pattern as a bonus if I want to play that instead.
