Lone note issue, another approach?

I’ve been struggling with this issue, I would inside pick them but I was never happy with the results. I’m going for a malmsteen vibe. Then I tried for two months to do it with hybrid with mixed results, it’s less awkward now but I’m still not convinced.

Yesterday I came upon, this Chris Brook vid. Just tried it and it feels natural and sounds right! Don’t know if anybody else is struggling with this, but I think it works well ascending, descending somehow the hybrid works better and of course for pedal tone like where it’s 1 note on two strings, the hybrid works better. It’s getting a bit complicated with all the different approaches, hopefully, gets easier down the road.

Here’s a short clip of the hybrid approach, jittery. Ding’s n all, just amateur

A cleaner tone, with the hybrid, my gut feeling is Chris Brook’s method will keep the momentum better, my apologies if this has been covered here before being that it’s quite a fundamental thing.

Cool lesson @Twangsta thanks for sharing!

So Chris also thinks that Yngwie is swiping those repeated outside string changes? Interesting and it’s something I suspected as well. But to be fair, we don’t have full proof that Yngwie himself does it.

Also, cool improv! When you get going you really are in Yngwie territory. Like if you chopped up the best bits of your clip and told me it was YJM, I’d probably believe it

It tried it and it worked well almost instantly ascending, descending took a bit more thought, just had a few minutes with it though. I think of all the approaches it added a flair that’s very Malmsteen, sometimes things flow like those MTB guys ripping down hill, but it’s really nice to have both abilities, starting on a down or upstroke I can only try to make a call on what to use on the spur, if I’m lucky eventually; I find hybrid has a phase issue with the fingered upstroke, depending on what disruption to picking momentum, it doesn’t always flow, need more work I guess, and the ocational latency. something I need to analyze more. I hope some of it is making sense.

That’s the biggest compliment I’ve ever received! Thank you, deeply humbled
