Longa Riyad - Classical Arab piece - gypsy style UPX

Hi all,

Just wanted to share something I’ve been working on.
It’s a piece called Longa Riyad, I arranged it for UPX. I’m playing it using forearm rotation, gypsy style.

Here it is at 150 bpm, not a finished video, just recorded practicing, camera angle is horrible, but figured I might as well post it as I don’t seem to get to doing a decent recording of it.

Hopefully I’ll manage to film better version soon.

Lemme know what you think, it’s a really fun piece to work on UPX!

Cheers, Elan

Thanks so much guys.

It real is super fun to play.
Here’s a basic sheet music video for it that I found.

If anyone wants to learn it I’d be glad to post a quick tutorial of my adaption to UPX.

Hopefully I’ll post a better take soon (maybe even faster haha, who knows…).

Cheers and stay safe (-:

Nice work! Where did you figure out the position shift trick at :55? Tip, you can use the same idea against the pentatonic box and diminished arpeggios by using three-note fingerings per string. All kinds of cool patterns become available that way, including sequences of triplet threes which would require back and forth string switching otherwise.

Yes please, would be perfect for the “show and tell” category. I’d probably give it a shot

Hey,
so I made a sheet music+TAB for the arrangement:

And a video tutorial:

I’ll try to get around to making a clearer video soon.

Hope you enjoy!

Hey Troy,
Thanks!

for the position shift I guess I was inspired by you, haha. Comes quite naturally after all the Yngwey material of yours.

Regarding your tip on diminished lines, I don’t quite understand - how could I do 3 notes per string with these? Wouldn’t that be an impossible stretch? (4 frets between each note for diminished…). Will definitely check out the pentatonic idea, thanks!

Ellman, thanks for putting this together. It’s right at the appropriate skill level for me where I’ll be able to get through it with a bit of practice. The tutorial is really helpful as well. Thanks again!
