Master of Puppets - USX or DSX?

Haha well said. I appreciate your input none the less. I’ve tried this song on and off over the years but never stuck to it. At the moment, I can play along at 80 percent speed. That’s the limit for me on MOP. I can play a couple measures in the low 90s before my arm craps out. The current grip and form I have now as of late feels the best thus far but I want to train it up for awhile before I attempt the song again and get bummed out. I’ve heard conflicting opinions on the burst concept. I’ve begun using it but not for long enough to really say if it helps or not but I do also just practice the old school way too

Made this for @DimeCFH

I’m getting used to rhythm playing with 3 finger rdt (I think is what this is?), so my timing / rhythm is a bit off lol.

Really appreciate this my guy. Thanks so much! Gonna check this out and give it a go!

@DimeCFH Something I noticed too is that you might be using too much finger motion in the video you posted. Finger motion isn’t bad, but you should try to maximize other movements for rhythm.

Thanks for the observation, I’m looking for all the help I can get. Are you referring to the fingers holding the pick moving too much rather than my wrist joint or the fingers not holding the pick?

@DimeCFH the fingers holding the pick. Ideally the primary motion would be forearm rotation / wrist. I’ve gotten tendinopathy from elbow motion, but some people make it work.

True… I was wondering if the thumb and index holding the pick could be used as a little cheat by making micro picking movements with them… so you just let it all go from the wrist? I hope you’re tendonitis isn’t too bad… funny you mention that because I never noticed any elbow pain from guitar until the last two weeks when I switched my tremolo motion to the wrist movement. Wasn’t getting any from the elbow motion but I am now when trying to just use my wrist. Maybe I’m doing something wrong or maybe it’s just from marathon practice sessions which I do every day

I fell like I definitely do this with “normal” grip, but less so with trailing edge.

I think I’m currently using lots of forearm rotation with some wrist extension and maybe elbow for accents?

Luckily it’s pretty much gone, I just make sure I warm up before doing harder stuff.

Definitely don’t push into discomfort. If you’re getting fatigued that’s one thing, but “tweaky” movements are a huge sign to take a break. I’m not fond of long practice sessions unless you can keep the quality high throughout, which tends to be rare for me.

I’m glad to hear the pain cleared up for you. Yeah I definitely do not want to develop an issue so I’m trying to focus on playing relaxed and stopping the instant anything feels weird and taking a little break. Is the forearm movement you are talking about the same as the motion test with the credit card where you hold it horizontally and make a picking motion?that was my worst test, I just could not get that movement down at all. Gotta go back and work on that. Really appreciate all the valuable input bro.

Don’t recall this test but I could check it out!

Id like to know what that means, so I know how to practice it. Drum drag/ruff?
Someone enlighten me
