As I posted elsewhere, more and more I’m trying to distinguish between methods that are good for something just-out-of-reach (e.g. dotted rhythms, imo) as opposed to those (like maybe chaining) that are meant for steeper climbs.
Something I took from the educator Philip Johnston is the importance of always knowing: what method am I applying to overcome this technical challenge? (A study I saw showed that 95% of participants just played the thing the same way over and over - we all know where that gets you.)
I’d love to know what strategies the teachers around here recommend to their students, in the categories of just-out-of-reach vs. ‘long-reach’ methods.
