I believe the song is “To Tame Aland” which was the last song on side 2 of the {piece Of Mind album. It is such an amazing song! The composition, the complexity and haunting melodies which are very exotic sounding and not the standard minor scales all contribute to making this one if their greatest songs in my opinion, yet even though I saw Miaden on the Powerslave tour and the Caught Somewhere In Time Tour, as well as seeing Bruce Dickinson on a solo tour in 1999, I’ve never heard “To Tame A Land” performed live and I don’t think I’ve ever heard it mentioned when I’ve heard maiden fans discussing their favorite Maiden songs. For me it’s in their top 5 songs!
I frikkin love songs like Aces High and Hallowed be Thy Name, but a friend was showing me a song called Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter. The title was kinda humorous xD but it was a pretty cool song. Very raw and rock n roll.
Me too. I especially enjoyed the way they opened with it on their Powerslave tour and they added something special to it. In concert, before they started playing Aces High as their opening song, they played a tape of Winston Churchill’s speech where he talks about how in facing the Germans in WWII they wold fight on the beaches and in the hills…and finally ends the speech with “We shall never surrender”!
Here is a version of Aces High with the speech that they played a tape of live to begin their show:
One of my faves from Somewhere In Time is “Deja Vu”. No one ever talks about it.I love the vocal lines and the driving harmonized riff with the snare just cracking like gunfire all over the beat
The Somewhere in Time Tour was the second time I saw maiden live. There Powerslave tour was the first. I don’t think they played Deja Vu but can’t remember for sure. They did do that song where there is this chant that I understand is, or is similar to a chat from a soccer game. Do you remember that one?
Somewhere In Tine was the last Maiden album i liked before left the band and had a solo career. I topped following them after that. I thought 7th Son was extremely boring. Did that have synthesizers?
“Stranger in a Strange Land”
“Genghis Khan”
“Children of the Damned”
“Flash of the Blade”
“Back in the Village”
“Alexander the Great”
“Only the Good Die Young”
