Muting upper strings when downslanting

Greets! Here Mario from Spain. I’m working on my downward pickslanting and pentatonic stuff, but I’ve a particular problem: cleaning

When I’m lowering string (i.e. 6th-5th-4th…), I usually use my right hand thumb to progressively mute the last string that has sounded. This habit has made me an upward pickslanter.

My problem is that with downward pickslanting, I can’t find the way to mute upper strings with my thumb when I’m going from bass to treble. I can’t use my thumb for this if I have the hand slanted in the opposite way! (down slanted).

I’d appreciate your help in this matter, thanks in advance.

Check out this video on muting by uncle ben:

In short, it’s the job of palm when using DWPS to mute the bass strings.

Yep, it will take a little while to “unlearn” what you’ve been doing all these years with the thumb.
I personally seem to use the front side of the thumb as mentioned at 6:02 in the video, rather than the palm. And for me it seems the natural choice since I’ve added a little edge picking slant to my picking stance so the fleshy part is right there already.

Hey there! Sorry, I’ve been off for Christmas.
Thanks for your replys, great video. I’m working on it!
Happy new year!
