My mt everest finally "scaled"? Lol

This scale sequence is one I have played at for years. If I space off it comes out. However never cleanly in the past.

Its only after coming here and learning what my escape options are.

Now Im purposefully using a combo of tech to get through this thing at a moderate pace.

For me this is proof of concept.

Im torn though.
This thing has been like a splinter in my finger forever I just know Im going to miss it when the pain is gone.

Anyway.

Navigating this thing really has given me confidence that I’m on the right path as there is no accidentally playing this clean

Im still in the process of experimenting starting on ups or downs etc
I’m 100 sure there are several ways to play it now.

I know I ramble but man I have been struggling forever so Im pumped and my wife doesn’t listen very intently. Lol

Here I mapped a small part and this sums up what My comfortable path is.

Eventually I will try it with resets like I was talking about earlier in the volcano 4s but like I said this feels pretty natural already
The asterisks show where I use an up or down escape

Have you got this both ascending and descending?

Yeah I can play it both ways.
Not blazing fast by any stretch of the imagination but I can get through it

The gold standard for this with alternate picking is Batio:

I mean, just a total home run. The descending version can be done pretty well with a mixture of alternate and sweep:

And it’s also relatively easy. The pulloffs are doing a lot of the work for you here. You totally could reverse this and use hammers for ascending but I haven’t worked on it.

Awesome. I’ll have a good look when im home in a few

After watching his interviews I love that guy. It also does my heart good knowing he bothered to master that thing because I always feared it was a waste of my time.

Have you any tips for building that sort of part picked/part legato thing from the ground up? I don’t know why but it absolutely throws me off so I tend to stick to either all picked things or 'pick one note to start a new string, slur the rest".

I get a very similar feeling to when I try to play Bonham triplets on the drums, when I try to speed up I get a sort of “seasick” feeling due to the lack of a stable alternation.

Slow it down til I’m comfortable? “Zoom out” far enough that there is a repeating pattern? Or something I haven’t thought of?

I did try this option a little bit and I had some trouble making the hammers sound decent/loud enough. Particularly the 3-4 case. It seems to me that the sound of pulloffs tends to blend better with the sound of picking. Perhaps this could be mitigated by picking softly (not a fan personally) or by using compression (but then it becomes an electric-only technique).
