Need some advices about pickslanting

Hey guys, I’m new at this pickslanting world and it really changed my life. Could you give me some advices on how to start learning pickslanting? should i master downward pickslating first and then learn upward pickslanting? or do both at the same time? Need some help about this! Thanks for your time.

pd: if you can recommend songs to learn this i would really appreciate that. :slightly_smiling_face:

The general advice is to experiment with different motion mechanics and find the one that you can do fastest and smoothest (best way to do this is with a tremolo). This motion is the one to start with as you will make the quickest progress and can start playing lines according to the pickslant that you are employing. It seems that a lot of people get stuck trying to choose a certain way of playing instead of going with what comes naturally. You can re-arrange lines to fit your picking strategy by employing hammers/pull offs or sweeps with a single escape motion.

Hi Ernesto, welcome!

I would suggest to start by reading our new “picking motion” pages, they should help clarifying all the concepts in a more up-to-date language

At the same time, I agree with you that starting with songs is the way to go. But the list of suggestions depends on what music you would like to play

Hey @tommo ! Thanks for this first step, shurely i’m gonna read that info and i’m anxiously waiting for the next month to purchase my master in mechanics membership :slightly_smiling_face:

About the songs, i’ve always been into rock music but this is the first time that i’m getting into the shredding world. To be honest, i don’t like the music of too many guitar players that are in this shred world, but if have to choose one of them i certainly pick Eric Johnson or Martin Miller. Also, in this new path i’m looking to get better at my alternate picking technique. And lately i’ve been listening to a lot of jazz guitar players but don’t wanna transcribe jazz (haha), and i’m very passionate with funk, RnB, neosoul kind of stuff. So if you have some suggestion in mind for me that would really help. Thank you a lot!
