New here ! And question

Hey yall im Aaron from cincinnati oh. ive been playing guitar for about 4 years and have been looking for a community like this to help me up my game. theres a lot of great info on this site introducing topics ive never even heard of before.

To lay out my question ill give my background. Im used to looking up tabs to songs that are probably too hard for me and then i get frustrated when i cant play them fast or sometimes even at all. sometimes i can even fret it completely with no picking but nothing comes together when i try to actually play it. I know some things now like i wasnt focusing DSX and USX and DBX and when they should be used, and my use of the metronome was minimal or non existent.

So basically ive built plenty of bad habits in not only my technique but Also in the way of my practicing habits. Probably one of the most frustrating things ive dealt with. Is there any way out? thanks

Welcome!

As someone who had to entirely change the way they played guitar as an adult (i had hand surgery and thus had to completely change my movements aged 25, after 10 years of playing) I can tell you that it’s very possible, but it requires a serious exercise in humility.

If you can genuinely be ok with the fact that you’ll have to temporarily be worse to be better in the long run, and you’re prepared to not “cheat” by reverting back, it’s easy.

Start with the fundamentals and work up from there. Patience and humility are key.

Start with the Primer. Identify what motions you already have: they’re probably not as bad as you think! If they don’t work, work on developing one (also using the Primer).
