New Member Critique/ Dilemma

hi, finding CtC very interesting so far. have watched the Pickslanting Primer twice and done all the tests along with Troy and pretty much kept up with him.

having watched the primer, I’m pretty sure I’m generally using DSX (see vids below) and I am a chronic string hopper (which I hope to correct). my dilemma: I think USX sounds better (in the fleeting moments I can do it) but even when I slant my pick for what one would assume engages USX, I’m pretty sure I’m still doing DSX.

I’m very interested in the Volcano and Cascade seminars…but do I need to learn to be a USX technique player before they are of any use to me? do those seminars “teach” USX? how do I “undo” so many years of DSX? is this the wrong mindset?

The clip you linked is DSX, and I think volcano and cascade stuff is USX… maybe you have your terminology backwards?

oh my god. sorry. I have edited the original post now. thx for the heads up.

@Cronos666 lol it’s all good man, I get them mixed up sometimes too. Also it doesn’t seem like you’re stringhopping at all!

I’m fine on a single string! I guess I should have posted one where I change strings…that’s where the bouncing/ string hopping rears it’s head. many, many years of a bad habit ingrained. sigh.

@Cronos666 I already think that “stringhopping” isn’t as bad as people make it out to be, especially if you can hit good speeds already, which I definitely think you can. You should post some video of riffs where you change strings!
