No real difference between the two on paper. I always just disconnect mine because it 1. Cheaper than buying no load pots, and 2. There is never a time I would ever roll down the tone knob anyway. That said there are some neater things you could do with them if you really wanted.
As far as a YJM is concerned, I haven’t done it to mine, but that’s just because I’m lazy. I have an old YJM from ‘88 with HS-3’s and I can’t imagine that anyone would want to use a tone control with them.
A no-load pot can behave like a disconnected pot or a real pot depending on how much you rotate the knob, so it’s flexible in case you’d like both options (pot or no pot) via a twist of a knob.
I got already Bridge No load pot. But the neck one is normal. In theory there should be no diff in tone but you keep additional options. But yes usually i run them on full 99% time.
Yes, there is a difference, I get some top end, theoretically there’s shouldn’t be.
I was struggling to get bridge and neck tone balance, removing from circuit solved my problem. I like the higher friction bridge tone knob with the dent. The zero friction vol works well. Though some folks have issues with Strat vol knob placement, the low friction can make it worse for them.
I have done the mod. I just cut it with scissors , i keep the no load pot for bridge and mid. Works as expected. More output, more upper highs . I lowered a pickup by 0,3mm so i keep the violin sounds but lowered a bass a bit.
There are some players who just completely bypass the tone AND volume pots, and swear that it yeilds both brighter AND Hotter tone
Bypassing the volume certainly would.
