[Noob Question] Does the tempo in your DAW matter when you play to a backing track?

Say for example you load in a backing track into your DAW and you are unable to match the tempo of the DAW to that backing track. Like, you load one of Steve Vai’s Naked Tracks into your DAW and it’s not really matching up to any tempo, possibly because the tempo of the track is varying slightly.

Do you just ignore the tempo of the DAW? Do you try to match the tempo of the track somehow? Or is there a way to disable the tempo of the DAW?

What is the best way to deal with this situation?

Just ignore it! The tempo in the daw only affects the click track. There should be a button to mute that.
