Not sure what to do with right hand fingers not holding the pick

Im not sure what to do with the RH fingers not holding the pick. I see some players that have them sort of resting on the pickguard and then the higher strings when playing the lowest strings. Not sure if this is something they do consciously or not.

it depends if you are a primary DWPS or UWPS really. I just curl them up a bit but not real tight and I am primary upward.

It’s a question kinda related to how you hold the pick. Ben Eller discusses that here at around 7:10.

Troy also briefly mentions trying Batio’s way of anchoring the pick in the 12th episode of Cracking The Code at around 18:44 before giving up and going back to what he’s used to.

With the wild variety of ways to hold the pick we can see, it’s fair to say that it’s not a completely (at least) essential picking component: just try stuff out and see what you are most comfortable with.

Whatever works and is relaxed - experiment!

Using fingers to lightly anchor my right hand helps ajusting pick depth, especially when using DWPS. Helps with the angle of the pick too.

Ditto. I do the “sliding” anchor thing, similar to Yngwie. One thing I’ve changed in recent years is lowering the middle pickup on an HSS guitar to be flush with the pickguard (Ritchie Blackmore style) so my fingers don’t bump against it.
