Wow. Just got some of the 1.14mm in and I really don’t like them so far. I like a snappy attack, and these make an extended “whoosh,” like pick chirp that lasts for a long time or even a record scratch.
Yeah I have a feeling they work better on acoustic or nylon string! I also thought they felt a bit weird on high gain electric
I don’t get that sort of wooosh, but the attack falls in a VERY different place than it does with Ultex. I tend to go with a fairly dark tone, I suppose, though.
I’ve mostly switched over to the 1.14 nylons - I think I prefer the attack (though the solo I was working on last night had a pinch semi-harmonic that I was having a little more trouble than usual getting to ring out cleanly) and they feel nice. TBD how they wear though, the one I’ve mostly been using IS starting to feel a little rough on the leading edge.
If I don’t get on with their wear and tear or I find I do have a harder time pulling out harmonic overtones, I may drop from the Ultex 1.0s down to the 0.88s, if I switch back - I’m liking having a little more give.
I think I sort of know what you mean. I find that some heavier nylon picks, the stubby being an extreme example, have a very subdued attack with that chirp.
I prefer a cleaner snap like you are describing, and I have no issues getting that with the ultex versions. I also don’t really get a lot of chirp with ultex either, though I would say that you tend to get more of it with the heavier glossy versions, with some of that similar whoosh you describe.
