I recently noticed that too. I think he’s gone back to his old way of trailing edge picking.
I wonder if, on this song, he is trying to get MINIMAL pick noise. So he is trying to get some finger on all the notes? weird looking. looks more like a weird Steve Morse thing
He has been doing that for ever. He just alternates between his most usual form and this one, which usually uses more for struming.
It is truth than in all the videos he made while recording his last album he has been playing like that (maybe to avoid getting too shreddy in what was supposed to be a more mellow and blusey album), but I have seen videos of him recorded after the album was made playing with his most reconocible style.
