I found this great video where PG talks about practicing the Yngwie lick for a whole summer to get his speed up. You also get to see one of the best close ups I’ve seen of Paul’s picking hand.

Cool clip!
It is the Yngwie lick, but when Gilbert plays it, it sounds so Gilbert to me! This is why I love PG, his clean strong and accurate picking style is so recognizable!
I noticed the following in this clip: PG starts the lick with a slight DWPS and as he goes faster, he is doing more and more UWPS. Does anybody else see this?
Not that I am willing to compare myself to PG (
) but I find myself doing something very similar. If I want to reach my fastest tremolo picking, I have to switch gradually to UWPS as I speed up.
Since the the Teemu Interview I have been trying to achieve my UWPS speed playing the Yngwie pattern with DWPS without success.
I’ll try to post a clip of my problem soon!
