Hey everyone, I’m going through the primer and wondering if my pick grip is off. Should the pick sit more on the pad of my index finger? My hand feels pretty relaxed doing it this way.
No right or wrong. If it’s comfortable and it works for you do it. I have been doing that a lot more lately because I have worn down the side of my finger and it kind of hurts a little.
The “minimal effort” grip is a great starting point- but hard to tell if it works without seeing it “in action” - because the pick grip has to work in conjunction with your overall posture, picking motion etc.
In short, easier to tell if you film a playing example!

Sorry for the multiple post couldn’t figure out how to have videos attach to this TC.
I ended up creating a second from the dashboard.
Feel free to delete .
Oh sorry for the confusion. I should have said!

PS: looks like elbow motion, and quite fast! Not a bad starting point at all
Note how you have changed your grip already (curling the index a bit more) - probably as an instinctive way to adjust the pick attack and make it work with the rest of your setup and motion. This is not a criticism, just an observation
Thanks Tommo!
Appreciate the help, Think I got it correct.
So I’ve rewatched my videos a few times and think at slow to mid speeds - scales I use more of the wrist and forearm with a string hopping motion
At high speeds it’s definitely elbow with what I believe is an DSX. I engage some of the muscles discussed in the primer and notice. I’ll tense up my tricep something to work on.
(I can relax if I think about not tensing up)
