Picking critique before and after CTC

Here’s a vid I recorded a few weeks ago before I discovered CTC. It’s a triplet run that I was trying to play fast but could only manage 80bpm

After discovering CTC, doing the term test and feeling comfortable that my natural motion appeared to be elbow driven with DSX, I tried the same run just now. I didn’t practice it, just decided to have a go at 100bpm and see what happened. Here it is:

It’s a bit sloppy but I think it’s way faster than I could achieve before even though I practiced a lot to get that 80bpm shot. How can I now clean this up, improve the timing and the hand-sync and what can I do to further hone in on that picking technique? It’s all still new to me so would appreciate the eyes and advice of those more analytical and experienced forum members to help me improve!

Have you made the tremolo test? Looks like you have a nice wrist motion but I’m still curious what your fastest tremolo on one note/single string motion looks like.

I posted my trem test last week. Not sure how to link it to this thread so insert the vid again…

Hey @PhilX, looks like a great tremolo!

I’d try to apply this motion to your lick, try starting both on an upstroke and on a downstroke, and see what version feels smoother. Switch off the metronome and just beast it!

I’m suspecting DSX motion (as you seem to suggest) but am not sure. If we are right, then the upstroke version will probably feel easier (after getting grips with the unusual starting point).
