Picking depth for each string?

Have you guys noticed that in order to get good picking going on the lower strings, you need to dig your pick into the strings just the tiniest bit more the thicker the strings go? I noticed this when practising 3nps two way pickslanting. The 3 highest strings are really easy, the pick just goes through and gives clear notes. The 3 low wound strings though feel “sluggish” and don’t produce a good sound. I tried changing my pick depth for those strings and lo and behold It feels a bit better, but idk if this is the way to go forward seeing as its another thing I have to take into account when going across the strings from low e to high e.
