Picking Grip Issue

Hello,

I’m taking a look to the pickslanting primer for second time.
At this moment I’m improving my picking grip after many years using gun-trigger gripping style.

It feels good but when I’m trying to increse the speed the pick is sliding a little bit trying to return to the old style.

Is it normal?
Should I put more force on the grip?
If yes, how can I identify the right amount of force without lost the calm/rest of my hand?

Thanks in advance!

I have the same question as yezgar25. I also would like to know if it is better for the pick to be on the pad of the index finger or slightly to the side of the pad.

Thank you.

Unfortunately I feel with questions like this one, the answers you will receive will vary, sometimes wildly. There’s no one “right” answer, and this can also vary quite a bit depending on what you are trying to do, meaning one may use varying amounts of grip strength depending on on the situation. I think you are already doing the best thing to do, and that is to keep on experimenting with it, and try to find a happy medium where you aren’t straining or gripping so tight you hands clench up, or gripping so loose that the pick wants to fly from your fingers constantly.

Don’t quote me on this, but I’ve experienced that the pick kinda keeps itself in position when both pickstrokes are smooth. I’d suspect either your downstroke or upstroke is hitting the strings at an angle that’s giving you hassle.
