Please help me figure out what I’m doing wrong with my alternate picking

Hi new poster here

Please can somebody help me diagnose what is going on with my alternate picking. I’d class myself a forever beginner. I really think my picking hand is what holds me back from progressing. I’m left handed playing right handed. My issue is when I alternate pick I’ve noticed my pick seems to move side to side as if I’m scribbling tiny circular motions with a pencil causing the pick to move sideways as I pick up and down. I get a scratchy or squeaky sound. When I tremelo pick on a single string this motion does seem to go away. I’ve been trying to build alternate picking speed but soon as I get around 120-130bpm on metronome it falls apart.

Any advice is welcome. Just want to know what I’m doing wrong so I can work on correcting it.

Thanks

Probably string hopping. The solution for this is to find a motion that works fast i.e. 160+ BPM through experimenting doing tremolo with different motions. There are a lot of useful videos in the Pickslanting Primer if you didn’t already know.
