Pretty new the CtC, want to verify I'm doing reverse dart player motion correctly before moving on

Hi to all,

I’ve been off and on CtC for a while now and I’ve decided to just buckle down and brute force myself through it until things feel right. Watching the primer, a big “aha” moment was Troy mentioning the pick grip during the reverse dart player motion. Absolutely nothing felt natural until I adjusted that. But I don’t want to continue practicing this if my motion isn’t even correct to begin with. I have 2 vids, within a couple of minutes of each other. If/when this starts feeling good, I want to get the USX motion to feel natural and then maybe attempt at learning some tough licks.

From my perspective, the first video shows a sort of elbow motion whereas the second seems a little more “wristy”. That second motion looks promising if you prefer to rely on your wrist for more control.

On another note, I would not advice to condition yourself to a preconceived idea of the motion you “should” have. Specifically, I mean that you are chasing a USX motion but from what I can tell, you are 90% close to a very efficient DSX motion: your upstrokes are trapped as it happens naturally with DSX but your downstrokes are also trapped because you might be trying to force the USX trajectory to happen.

I’d say experiment with both DSX and USX and let your hands choose their path of least resistance even if it goes against what you initially had in mind. I bet you won’t regret it.
