Previously unreleased footage of Mahavishnu Orchestra from 1973

Excellent shots of John throughout, and everyone is on fire, of course. So cool that this little treasure can now be seen.

Great find! John is basically the archetypal reverse dart DSX-er.

I saw this when Gary Husband posted it…absolutely amazing! I was struck by how much Jeff Beck must have been totally inspired by John in this era…the way John inserts those left hand Index finger quick whole step bends in the middle of the shredding-Beck didn’t do that before this and then he did it thereafter. He does it all over ‘Blow By Blow’ and the BBC footage with the Upp band and then that became a Beck move until his dying day.

John certainly did have an epiphany or multiple epiphanies after playing with Miles…he was pretty much playing straight bebop in The Graham Bond Organization and later. Even when he got with Miles and Zawinul for ‘In a Silent Way’, he was doing these “zen” one note things…by ‘Bitches Brew’ there was an explosion and then he became what we know him to be. And Beck and everyone else took notice!

This is a remarkable document…I can’t stop watching it. Very much like the ‘78 footage of Van Halen that fell out of the sky a while back-“Re-play, jaw-drop. Re-play, jaw-drop.” Ad infinitum. I love this.
