References for motor programs

Hey folks, long time listener of Cracking the Code on socials, first time subscribing.

I’m studying a PhD at the moment in teaching rock guitar and helping self taught guitarists transition to further / higher education, and going through the masters in mechanics series for good nuggets and quotes to use in a literature review. At one point Troy mentions that “researchers” have talked about motor programs, and it’d be helpful for me if I could track down where that’s come from. There’s a box that says References (1) at the bottom of the page, but nothing happens if I click it, and it seems to just link to the same page that I’m on.

Thanks y’all, I’m loving the series so far!

Richard Schmidt’s books are the canonical references.

Motor Learning and Performance - Schmidt & Lee

Motor Control and Learning - Schmidt etc al.

It should be mentioned also that there isn’t a scientific consensus as to whether motor programs or schema actually exist.

Other books worth reading include:

Motor Learning and Control for Practitioners - Coker

How We Learn to Move - Gray
