Reverse dart thrower motion - String noise tips?

Hi everyone, first time poster here!

So after seeing the video about reverse dart thrower motion I decided to give it a try to see if I could increase my picking speed. Before that I was stuck at around 120 - 130 BPM sixteenth notes when playing 6 notes per string runs using USX.

So I decided to shift my wrist into more of a diagonal angle and use a 3 finger pick grip (which I’ve always used anyway). It almost resembles Marty Friedman’s picking hand, but way worse obviously. I very quickly found it a lot easier to increase my wrist’s speed. I can now play that same run at around 165 BPM; sloppily, but my picking hand can keep up with the tempo.

However I now have a new problem, which is that I’m unable to mute the strings as I ascend. Since now my wrist is slightly lifted from the bridge, I cant use my palm to mute the lower string and by the time I reach the high E, specially the D and G strings go crazy with noise.

I’ve tried forcing my palm down to deal with it, but by doing that I start using more elbow motion to compensate for the loss of speed and I’m unable to precisely control it compared to wrist motion. So now I’m stuck with a “fast” but dirty technique, or a slow clean one.

I’m curious to know what you guys think. Should I invest time getting my elbow motion clean and leaving this altered wrist position for two string licks where I’m less likely to generate noise, or am I missing something with this motion?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the group!

You will get the best feedback by posting a video or two demonstrating your exact form while playing the 6nps run. You should include a tremolo video as well, since that’s the foundation for your picking technique… can you tremolo faster than 16ths at 165bpm?
