Thought I would share these for anyone who doesn’t know him!
An absolute monster on guitar and a great teacher. If anyone can explain how he is so fluid and relaxed that would be wonderful.
I would love to see an interview with him.
Rick is incredible. I’d love to see him on CTC!
I’ve suggested this man to CTC since the beginning! ))
His playing has changed over the years, from full Gambale economy picking to ascending economy and descending hybrid picking and legato. It’s smooth as.
Yea Rick is an amazing player. Tremendous combination of chops and melody!
yeah I watch his videos. Guy really knows how to pull some impossibly cool stuff out of the instrument. Some of the shapes he uses are just torturous!
I’m seeing a bit of thumb movement in the first video, he doesn’t seem to be changing the angle of his pick in any obvious way. I"m guessing UWPS because of the thumb bump, but would stand corrected.
I’m a fan of Rick’s for sure. Everything seems so precise and effortless. I bought a few of his videos a couple of years ago and it seems that he relies on pick angle more than pick slanting to glide over the strings. I tried to implement some of his picking technique, but it really feels alien to me, being an alternate picker for the last 30 years.
Do you recall what video he talks about his picking? I’d love to get it myself.
I bought both of his economy picking videos when I was having some wrist issues. I believe he discusses picking in the first one. Not to the depth that Troy gets into, but more of what works for him.
He also talks about his technique in the video from his clinic that he has on his channel. The whole video is really amazing and well worth watching for many reasons, not just technique.
yeah I don’t think I’ve seen less effort from a guitarist that produces these kind of results. When I’m excited and playing feverishly, I always think “don’t lift your fingers to far off of the fretboard when making a transition. be like Rick, be like Rick”
I tried to implement some of his picking technique, but it really feels alien to me, being an alternate picker for the last 30 years.
@Traumatized, you know he’s open for Skype lessons these days? You might be surprised at how far beyond any given technique he is. I too was a strict alternate picker through the past 40+ years. Since CTC I’ve focused on DWPS, and am surprised to find myself revisiting alternate picking sooner than I thought I might. Highly recommended.
Hey guys check out bearded Rick Graham taking a guitar lesson from Tyler! LMAO!!!
Interview this guy in a character @Troy Video gold. Video gold.
RICK GRAHAM!!! RICK GRAHAM!!! RICK GRAHAM!!!
When it comes to playing Smoke On The Water, just say no to root 6 power chords
That was actually my first introduction to the guy! And it deserves an Oscar.
So good.
oh… I’ve just posted the same video in another thread. It’s hilarious!
So Rick is a guitar god and also a great actor?
For those who don’t know, he also went through an impressive body transformation to become the ripped guy he is today. (check out his instagram for the before/after)
Just wondering about him in general:
Does Rick play live on stage?
I know that he wrote a solo for an Andy James track and collaborated with many artists but is he/was he in a band?
Anyway, again I love the guy’s playing. He is a motivation to me. His legato is ridiculously good!
Cheers \m/
Rick started out as a Classical guitar player when he was young I believe.
The physical transformation was a few years ago but I hope he finds his way back there again and kicks the problems he’s admitted to having. His playing is still top notch, better than ever in fact.
He doesn’t have a live gig. I heard he’s an anaesthetist by trade.
