Ripoffeggetto in Am with Scrolling Tabs - Neoclassical etude inspired by CPE Bach

Can you believe that son of a Bach? He stole my musical ideas like 200+ years before I had a chance to record them!

I took the first 8 notes or so from Solfeggietto in Cm, transposed to guitar’s best friend Am, then changed the rest. I guess we could call it variations on a theme by CPE Bach?

I’m experimenting with a sort of vertical split-screen for tab and performance, what do you think? Is it cool or should I stick with a more “normal” centered video?

PS: I have not yet notated the picking strategy, let me know if you are interested!

Edit: I think now the off-center video is bothering me  I’ll try to edit a centered one, I just need to figure out where to place the tabs.

Edit 2: here we go, I went for tabs hitting my face continuously. Seems the best compromise.

Edit 3: if you are feeling impatient, here’s the sweep section

First of all - great playing as always!

Personally, I prefer tabs on the bottom of the screen, like a horizontal split. With the layout you have, I feel that you don’t get enough time to see the upcoming notes because the tab is taking up such a small space.

I don’t want to post someone else’s YT in your thread, but I like how Juha Aitakangas has his tab and videos laid out.

Agreed, I checked it out after 1 night sleep and hated it

Updated link with new render. Tabs are a little smaller at the top, but I think it’s easier to see both the playing and the tabbing now.

Awesome stuff! Though for my recent videos I’m trying to avoid the “here’s only my hands” look.

Awesome stuff, Tommo!

For the big sweeps towards the end, you are starting each with an upstroke on the low E, correct? This is cool because it’s one of those things that you probably wouldn’t do if you had begun the sequence on the lowest note: it wouldn’t make sense, for the first arpeggio, at least. But in the context of coming from the descending arp each time, totally logical.

you are correct! I am doing an “inside picked turnaround” on the low note, something like:

There might be a small timing penalty for doing that, but I listened back in slow motion and I think it’s regular enough for my purposes.

Edit: the real problem with the arpeggios are those f$%&ing 2- and 3- string bars in the major and minor shapes with root on the 6th string.

How are you doing the tab/video thing here, by the way? This has been on my to-do list to figure out for a while. Bonus points if it’s in Final Cut Pro, which I really need to learn how to use a lot better than I know today.

You’re in luck  Indeed I used FCP, essentially following the ideas that you can find in this thread starting from Troy’s post (plus a couple very useful tricks in following posts, e.g. exporting the tab as a long horizontal image):

Hey awesome! I have a copy of Guitar Pro too, I’ll give this a look!

I’m in the office so i haven’t watched the video yet but I will!
