Satch Boogie picking strategy

How do you approach picking the main riff of Satch Boogie?

I have been starting with a downward pickslant for measures one through three, then switching to picking in the attempted style of Martin Miller for measure four.

I can play this! Let me check when I get to a guitar…

After Cracking the Code, I love revisiting previously learned songs. You can quickly identify tricky notes and passages!

The tab is wrong…

Where you have red open G string, it should be open D string, then 0-2-0 on low E.

I cross pick the 4/2, then use downstrokes on the 540, with a pull off on open d.

The red note was my addition and mistake. I meant to add it to the D string between the open G and open E.

Read my note about how I pick it. I dont think anyone would attempt AP because thats not how its played and would sound different… Unless you are trying something new.

I know a few Satch covers and not a single one of them caused any examination of right hand picking. They don’t require much in the way of right hand technique.

Edit… yikes… that tabs not exactly how I play it, but I can play it that way… Sorry cant tab it out for you, plenty of online resources that show it.

To maintain that bouncy rythym it needs alot of pull offs.

Missed your note about crosspicking, downstrokes, and a pull-off: That’s excellent input, thank you!

It seems like several tabs and online resources (e.g. YouTube videos) have a tiny difference, whether it’s an accent, pull-off, and even 0 - 2 - 0 versus 2 - 0 on the low E.

One reason for checking out Satch is to take a break from mechanically overhauling my right-hand technique.

Change the 5-4-0 group to 5-45(d string) then pull off to 0 on the d string. Thats how its done, not like a chord.

Slide up to the 5th position like its a chord change.
