It does work on my AxeFX, but not for anything more than casual playing. Fractal did a pretty major overhaul on the pitch block somewhat recently and it does power chords and R4s surprisingly well. I was finally able to jam to Caught In A Web without detuning and with a big gainy amp, To Build A Mountain by Crowbar sounds excellent.
I made a “nasty” preset where I have a standard 7-string, a Meshuggah 8 string and a Josh Travis TTDTDE sound to goof around with and it really only works as a 7.
I’ve debated a 7 or 8 for awhile and even spent a few hours at Guitar Center in Hollywood trying out all of the high end ones just to see if any of them felt good enough to play. EBMM had a couple 7s that were nice, but no 8-string feels good in my hands. The Stranberg Bodan (something like that) was probably the most comfortable but I’ll be damned if I ever go headless haha
