Why is it when I play the Sixes Ardeshir descending, my pick clearance is fine till about the 4th string? Just a slight bump when transitioning from string 3 to string 2.
Does your anchor point change?
I don’t think so. I feel as though I am not moving past the string sufficiently to start the next pick stroke. Is my anchor supposed to move?
I don’t think there’s a “supposed to” or “not supposed to”, just that if it did it could explain a change in feel.
Does it happen at all speeds or just when you speed up?
For these kinds of things a video is usually the best way for us to help out.
I’m pretty comfortable with this pattern. If you’re not doing any string tracking movement (IE, moving your hand placement on the bridge to accommodate string changes) then I could see why you may have trouble with the string changes. Have you tried adjusting your hand placement? You probably only need to move like half an inch to do the job I’ll reckon
I’ll need to do a video. It’s only at my faster speeds. Moderate is no problem.
Andy Wood doesn’t really move much at all - it’s all coming from the wrist. I would still call this tracking, just wrist tracking:
What I think is more common is some blend of the two, where you move the arm a little and move the wrist a little. This way neither joint feels like it’s moving to the extremes of its range of motion.
But you’re correct, you have do something to move across the strings, and if you don’t, or don’t do it smoothly, there can be issues.
I was able to get a video of this. I feel as though one issue is having both sides of palm resting on strings.
