Success with two way pick slanting and what was the break through for you

Hi guys,
Ive been using the site since September and I’ve seen some improvement in my picking but I was just curious for those of you that were able to get the shred mode going with two way pick slanting what was the big light bulb moments that made it click for you to actually be able to play fast and comfortable? thanks everyone

dunno if there was any one specific BIG moment or anything…besides the initial revelation that pick slanting mattered in the first place lol. I had the Paul Gilbert Intense Rock vhs back in like 1992 or something but I never could get the “Paul Gilbert lick” working because I didnt know anything about pick slanting lol. So it was nice when i ran across troys vids about 4 years ago. All of a sudden I understood why i struggled on certain licks and obviously 3nps stuff

I think the shreddiness sort of comes in time as the movements become “natural” and u dont have to think about them too much.

sometimes u just get kind of lucky and stumble onto a lick or two that just falls easily to you and if you can break it apart or reverse engineer it, you can really expand on it and use it to build a style.

Then u can look at licks you suck at and compare them to the easy licks and figure out what the differences are etc

one thing about 2 way, u dont HAVE to use it! If you do, you dont HAVE to use it a LOT. In other words lets say you started off being strictly DWPS. You can make tons of runs and licks using strict dwps and you can also make lots of runs etc where you may only have 1 or 2 spots where u go to UWPS.

eventually you start to figure out what your fastest runs and patterns will be. some just fall more naturally into your style and they might become sort of your “pet licks” that u base your style around

As far as actual 2WPS I have found that the more I do it, the less radical the slant becomes. If we look at the great alternate pickers like Paul G and Batio etc, we dont see them using really radical slants

Peace, JJ

Practice the chunk at slow to moderate speed till you’re bored silly, then rev it up and let it be sloppy until it straightens up.
