I have been working on the fast pick guard tapping for a couple months now as a way of getting a really fast motion going. I can tap up to about 280-285 bpm, but not for that long. 270-275 is more realistic I think. When I try to translate that to the strings though, I find myself hitting that tapping speed, but inconsistently. It sort of fluctuates between 16ths and triplets. Is there some expected loss of speed when it comes to actually playing vs the tapping since the string is adding resistance? Or am I just doing something wrong perhaps.
I’d personally expect some loss of speed, like you said due to string resistance.
