Temu Yngwie and a new pick

I came across a Kickstarter campaign about guitar picks designed with self-centered physics in mind and since I need to have every guitar gimmick in the world, I supported the project and got a variety pack.

The thing with these picks is that they have some waves in the shape that kinds cancel the force of the string against the pick, they have a sort of beak on the tip that can help you achieve picking angles that would require a change of posture otherwise, and glow in the dark. Also, if they have a beak pointing to one direction, you would assume the beak would point in the opposite direction if you flip the pick, right? well, that’s not the case, that’s why it feels like you can’t lose or hold these picks wrong*.

I’ve been experimenting with these picks and I really like them! In a way, they compensate for my usual “brushy” pick attach as the beak makes my tone more snappy without changing anything on my right hand, and I decided to tackle one of my life’s boss fights: Malmsteen’s Fugue.

The song is still rough around the edges but I am happy with my progress so far and hope to come up with an “official” recording soon.

Finally, my personal takeaway: It’s important to do like the pro athletes and record yourself. You can play alone or with others all you want but there is a lot of valuable insight that you will miss forever if you only capture information in the heat of the moment, but tape don’t lie.

*You can totally lose these picks and/or hold them wrong.
