The amazing picking chops of Rafael Trujillo

Formerly of the band Obscura, Rafael Trujillo stayed in the same 3-letter group and formed Obsidious.

Not only does he possess sick phrasing, his picking is on par with the best I’ve seen (Richardson, Taranto, etc.). His control is also out of this world (for ex., check his Namm song playthroughs).

He’s a graduate of the Munich Guitar Institute and Berklee (jazz program).

Has anyone done an analysis of his picking mechanics (pick grip, etc.) ?

Here are a few video examples.

Another beautiful solo he wrote. 16th note alternate picking runs at 210 bpm with string skipping are no joke (to me anyhow)

Wow that’s nuts! He makes it look so easy too

Tech death has some insane players, damn. Inferi, Archspire, Cytotoxin…

Makes me want to see Troy do a group workshop with a bunch of them together.
