The Curious Case of the Whole Step Fretwire

This one has me completely baffled. None of the other strings played on any of the other frets have this problem. Has anyone run into this before?

Either your action is too low in that area of the neck, or the higher fret is too tall. A decent tech should be able to fix this.

Your 18th fret is too high under that e-string and/or the 17th fret is low there. That’s why you hear that note when fretting the 17th fret. The 18th fret terminates the string when you fret the 17th.

If you actually use those notes you can get it fixed. If not I’d leave it as it is.
