The "Halo Sport" neurostimulation headset + musical practice

Here’s a device we’ve been linked to by a few people now. It certainly looks cool but we don’t have experience with it personally or know anyone who’s used it—

There’s more info on their site about the purported benefits / science behind it (neuroplasticity! priming!) but while tantalizing, this seems to be more “general science on the underlying concepts” rather than “actual experimental confirmation of results for athletic / musical performance”. Enough to convince me that it seems reasonably safe and potentially useful, but not clear enough what kind of practical impact one could expect.

This is the most prominent music-focused review I’ve found; his conclusions are interesting but pretty anecdotal:

This one is also anecdotal, but a bit more thorough of a review, and decidedly less enthusiastic in its conclusions:

So now I’m curious — anyone here familiar with this thing, or have insight (even secondhand) into how it may work for guitarists? Could be fun to do a test at some point. But also seems it’d be a real experimental design challenge, difficult to show conclusive performance improvements and separate any real impact from placebo effect etc.

As a kid I read in some guitar magazine that Van Halen’s guitar teacher used to slap him in the face with a ruler (!?) whenever he made a mistake. I wonder if the principle here is similar?
