In celebration of an old memory (which you can read if you like in the post), I did a cover of John Petrucci’s solo from the Dream Theater tune The Spirit Carries On.

Me and some buddies skipped school to go to a meet and greet with @johnpetrucciofficial at @chucklevins the day of the concert, where they held a raffle to hang out with the band backstage either before or after the show. Amazingly, after standing in line for hours to meet JP, we won that raffle! Unfortunately, something came up and the band wasn't able to honor that winning, but that was a badass show and it's still the only time I've ever seen DT. Now they've got a badass new album and they're coming back to DC this month! It sold out immediately and aftermarket tix are ridiculous, but I'll try to get in those doors. About a year ago I started coming around here, lurking, doing a TC with @Troy, and though I don’t post much, it quickly illuminated where I needed to work. In this video I see a consistently relaxed pick grip, picking from the wrist even when speed ramps up, and a fast two-way pickslanting lick across 4 strings … appreciated Troy and the CtC community for helping me make progress to that point!
