Hey guys.
I’m primarily an upward pick slant player. I’ve been playing on and off for 14 years and that’s just the picking motion that teenage me settled on. I have been trying to switch to downward pick slanting to become a USX player because that’s the technique my favorite guitar players use.
I’m running into this wall where when I am trying to play at faster speeds 140+ I subconsciously end up switching back to an upward pick slant (DSX). I tried to narrow down the issue and what I found is that I am having a difficult time tremolo picking at higher speeds with a downwards pick slanting (USX) technique.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get better at tremolo picking for higher speeds?
These videos are really old (14 years old) but you can watch them to get an idea of what my technique is like. I pretty much learned how to play using the extreme opposite of DWPS where instead of my wrist rotated right towards the bridge of the guitar its angled to the left towards the body above the 6th string. It’s almost like it’s being used as an anchor.
I don’t do it as bad anymore but I really want to break this wall and would really like to learn how to play at higher speeds using the opposite technique. (USX)
