This question has probably been asked before but does anybody know how Troy gets his sound on the EJ seminar intro?
Thanks,
Simon
Hi Simon!
The big secret here is… there is no secret. Same amp we normally use, Cornford Hellcat, just with the gain turned down a bit. I’m playing a Gibson Nighthawk which has eight thousand pickup selector switch positions including a coil split if you pull the volume knob so I just went through them all and chose this one. Not even sure what combination it is.
Single SM57 close-micing the cab, too, right?
I’ve watched those EJ clips many times, thinking “Wow that guitar looks cool! Look at those weird pickups!” 25½ scale on a Gibson is rather unusual as well. It looks super interesting.
Originally. Now I just DI the head with impulses of the same 57 on the same cab for simplicity. Cab is still plugged in for load purposes, so if you A/B the DI impulse with the actual mic on the cab the two are indistinguishable. So I think it’s fair to say yes, single 57 on the cab for all our stuff.
