Hi!
I have gotten really interested in improving my technique lately but i seem to not be able to decide on which way to hold the pick.
Context:
I think it stems from being a classical guitarist when i was around 10, and when i switched over to electric around 13 i played like Mark knopfler to then realise people seemed to use their fingertip-nail to play. Obviously they used a pick. I played with my fingertip as a pick for about 8 years only trying picks now and then until lately switching completely falling into the rabbit hole.
I would say i pick very similar to Pat martino and it is working fairly well but i donĀ“t seem to improve on fluidity. Very interested in gypsy jazz but i just canĀ“t keep up with their speed. However when i use my fingertip i am much more fluid, but it takes a toll on the nail, volume and a very weak sound.
Upon analyzing i realised today that with the finger it resorts to a natural trailing edge with the nail. But with the pick i had a flat edge, playing leading edge the last few months.
Trailing edge with a pick is sort of awkward but i feel like i might benefit from it.
I only realised not that i donĀ“t really have a question but i was looking for someone to have some general thought that might help.
Are there any of you that did a similar transition and what is your picking style/grip?
