Using the Crosspicking approach with Paul Gilbert String skipping Arps

  • Particularly in Intense Rock 2 The D Major to G Major String Skipping Arpeggios.

I’ve always hard a bit of a hard time with them, so I tried using the laser/wrist/clock approach talked about in the Crosspicking seminar With mixed results.

Has anybody else used this approach?

Any other string skipping type picking techniques you might know of?

From what I remember, P. Gilbert was phrasing arps so that they used > 1 NPS so that they could be alt-picked easier.

But to kinda answer your question, yes a X-picking technique is excellent for string-skipping in general. But if it’s a standard triad arpeggio, it’s much easier to just alt-pick it 1nps, then to pick 2 nps, then skip, then 2 nps, etc.
