V-Picks Testing

Did a nearly hour long test of my new V-Picks yesterday. I seem to favor the Psycho style. Here’s the vid: https://www.facebook.com/mhshred/videos/1962395444032819/

@uglijimus, thank you again for sending the picks you had!

I was surprised how good the smallest pick of the bunch felt, considering how flat it was and how much I dislike flat picks. The Psycho pick is kind of like a big beefed up version of the small pick. Plays well, and I feel the notes are just a touch clearer when compared to the Gravity Pick I’ve been using.

And, one of the best parts of the V-Pick is that there is NO SLIPPING. Thank GAWD. That is the big issue I had with my Gravity Pick.

I did try the Colossal and Insanity picks, those super fat ones. They’re just too damn big. I’ll be trying them out on the bass though. They might suit the bass instrument better. Not sure how Roy Marchbank’s 9 mm feels. The Colossal is basically 9 mm (when rounded up) and getting pinch harmonics in was a nuisance. Can’t live without those!

I also tried the Psycho Shredder which is basically a super pointy, perfect triangle and just as thick as the regular Psycho pick. The points stick too far out for me. Pinch harmonic problems again, and I also felt like I hard a hard time choking up on the pick.

The Snake version felt pretty good, but inferior to the Psycho pick.

I plan on doing some metronome work with a few of the picks today and see which one(s) allow for the best playability for me.

V-Picker here. I’ve got a bunch–The Screamer, The Euro + Euro II, Medium Pointed Lite, Tradition Ghost Rim. Got a bunch to try and they’ve become my go-to simply because of the stick-to-yer-skin factor. I have lots of issues with picks turning sideways in my grip and these guys grab on pretty nicely. I plan on getting a couple other styles to try.

Cool review! I was using The Snake yesterday as I’m starting to get away from picks with sharp tips as I sometimes feel the sharp tip is trying to grab on to the string too much.

I own a few V-picks myself and I do like how they feel and sound.

I switch between my Medium Pointed Screamer and the good ol’ Tortex picks when I practice and they’re both pretty damn awesome.

The metronome practice/test I did with the V-Picks was just now published: https://www.facebook.com/mhshred/videos/1962755180663512/

Overall, the Psycho held up better than the others. Still surprising how good the small pick felt. The Snake is a close 2nd.

Quite disappointed in with the Colossal and Insanity. But, still haven’t tried them on the bass yet.

I may try a different Gravity Pick some day that seems to be very similar to the Pyscho. Gotta get some more $$$ first though!

John,

The two thin picks I sent are exactly the same. I had no use for them so I sent both. Maybe you can find a good home for them.

I think there is something wrong with my hands. The v-picks slide in between my fingers despite all of the claims i hear from everyone.

And I can’t remember if this is true or not but I THOUGHT I heard that the insanity pic is only for practicing. It will increase your accuracy and overall skill once you go back to a “normal-size” pick.

thanks for going through all of that effort with those pics. An hour and half of material is really nice.

Yup! Same thing happened to me on a few of the picks. It’s still WAY less slippery than the Gravity Pick I’ve been using. Perhaps we are just a couple of extra oily people?

I find I gotta flip 'em every so often. The side that my thumb is on tends to get warmer and will start to slick up a bit after some time so flipping to the other side generally solves that, but I’m sure most of it comes down to your grip style and your oils and sweat composition etc etc
