While not exactly well-known for his picking, there’s very clear footage of his odd finger motion, which uses a good amount of upstroke sweeping - and there’s a faster moment mid-solo where it looks more like wrist. Also, there’s tapping, a couple of years before Van Halen’s debut dropped.
