What has helped you develop fluidity?

I’m just curious if anyone has found any practical approaches to developing fluidity if it didn’t come to them naturally.

For me, its definitely larger pick-strokes.

What do you mean by “fluidity”?

I think the key to fluidity is playing to a metronome or a beat whenever you can. Playing things in triplets helps too. Also, just listen to all of Jeff Beck’s records. Only Punky is more fluid than Jeff Beck!

Use the neck pickup.

I suppose I mean an eveness throughout the playing that connects the notes in a balanced manner that enhances musicality.

I’m not sure exactly what you mean. Sometimes it’s a lot more efficient to give examples instead of using words. Could you give an example of a solo by guitar player which has this quality you’re looking for and then give an example on the opposite end of the spectrum - a solo which has very little or no fluidity? I think that would be more helpful than using words to try to describe it.

marty freidman = fluid

dave mustaine = choppy
