When's the convention? jk maybe

You know what would be great? if we had some kind of convention where we could all get together and show
off techniques, troubles, exercises etc. It would be so much easier than doing it through terminology we are making up as we go along on the internet. I bet it would be a lot of fun and rewarding (well, at least for those of us who
are in the student role as opposed to the teacher-like me!).

maybe a possibility in the future?? or just wishful thinking?

That could be fantastic, but the people here are from all over the world. So maybe a series of livestreams that anybody can watch or join and show/discuss stuff would be better. Pretty much anybody can set up a google hangout or something, so we wouldnā€™t necessarily need Troy and his team to take care of everything if it would be too much extra hassle for them. Theyā€™re already putting lots of time into the forum, I think others should take the initiative as well. Iā€™d definitely be interested in doing something like this.

I thought about that too, but for me personally, I donā€™t know if a video feed would do it. I got the whole Teemu interview and while it is well worth the price, I find myself awkwardly staring in the mirror trying to hold the guitar like he does. I think if I had him in the same room with me, I could understand his technique a lot better.

maybe Troy could ā€œanointā€ worthy individuals in their respective countries of being the host of their own convention and have multiple ones throughout the world!

Though it doesnā€™t fit your in-person requirement, I think Teemu himself offers skype lessons, so thatā€™s one avenue you could pursue.

I agree that some kind of in-person get together would be cool. From the early looks of this forum, it seems like CTC tends to draw an audience of fairly positive and friendly people, so beyond the learning aspect, it would be fun to socialize with a bunch of like-minded guitar geeks.

While it requires a critical mass of interested people living in a particular area to be effective, the website meetup.com is specifically oriented towards helping groups of people with shared interests coordinate get-togethers and help others discover the group.

exactly! I feel the same way. In 1995, I went to the first Godzilla convention ever in Chicago. I havenā€™t gone every year but have been to a lot of them. Iā€™ve made lots of friends over the years and it is the sole reason I keep going back.

Love these ideas. Code Con would be great! I think an in-person get together would probably be a ways down the road, but definitely something we think would be awesome.

Weā€™ll be ramping up the live events (video livestreams) in the near future. Weā€™ve actually already built some features as part of the new web platform specifically to support live video Q&A;, like the ability to ask and upvote questions during a live broadcast, and then see those questions as clickable timestamps afterwards when we upload the video recording.

We havenā€™t had time lately to actually organize many of these, but we do want get more live interviews (like Batio 2017) on the calendar, as well as things like live ā€œTalking the Codeā€ sessions on various technical topics, or more loosely structured for Q&A, feedback, etc.

Hangouts sound like a great idea too. Not something we have bandwidth to organize right now, but anyone should feel free to pick a date, announce via a forum post, and host a session ā€” would love to see how that goes!

As an asynchronous option, weā€™d also encourage you to post a video to #technique-critique if you have something youā€™d like reviewed. A few people have posted there already and I think gotten some useful feedback

But agreed that it would be particularly cool to do something in person, as thereā€™s a whole dimension you canā€™t get by video, not only for learning but in terms of hanging with other friendly music nerds. Weā€™ll keep thinking about this and keep it in mind as a longer term goal. For now, open to suggestions for ways we might approximate this sort of thing in a more accessible format!

That would be way cool. Get some of the heavy hitters from the interviews to show up too.
That would be epic on a mass scale. Call it the Cracking the Code Weekend Shredaway LOL.
