The big things for me were adopting an open trigger or angle pad setup, using the bit between your middle finger nail and finger tip grazing against the body of the guitar to help guide your pickstrokes and initially using a more floating arm position as this made forearm rotation easier
Once you have that general setup you need to try and apply it and see if it works (it probably won’t straight away) and tweak it until it does.
The end tremolo section of Highway Star made perfect practice for this sorta thing. It combines two things Troy suggests into one being, find a working tremolo and apply it to musical piece. I also found that Highway Star section to be a sweet spot for learning this motion - sustaining 173bpm 16th notes for 30 seconds straight with no build up of tension was a great indicator of having a motion that works, you don’t wanna brute force this sorta thing and be gassed out by the end of the section.
The majority of my initial practice was spent with that solo section as playing along to something and having direct audible feedback if what your doing is working is really invaluable as there is no faking it.
